Default F/S 1938 Goudey #250 DiMaggio Rookie PSA 4 PWCC-E

Howdy folks,
I posted this earlier in the wrong category, it belongs here!

This card needs no introduction. Needless to say, this one does not turn over very often. Nearly dead centered, this is surely one of the best PSA 4s out there. PWCC agreed by giving it their Exceptional designation.

If it doesn't work, you can always go the Vault Marketplace and search for the card. There are only 4 and mine is far superior to the others.

Thanks for looking.

Thanks for those who enquired, but the card has now been submitted to the December PWCC auction.

Bid strongly, comrades!

Just a heads up but the 1938 Goudey is NOT Joltin’ Joe’s rookie… he had a 1936 World Wide Gum as well as 1936 R312s.

I have never seen either of those cards in my life. I am certainly not alone in calling this his rookie card, since it is his first major issue card.

Your card to do with as you wish, but giving it two hours on the BST with no photo and no proper link before moving it off is not exactly a fair try.

And Aaron is right, nobody except maybe Beckett would call it his rookie card, though it is still of course a tremendous issue.

This seems to be a case of marketing for an auction. Not sure of the rules on this (will leave that to the more tenured members), but good luck with your sale nonetheless.

Here are pics of the R312 and the World Wide Gum cards, both from 1936. There are also R313 & R314 Joltin’ Joes from 1936…

There was an R312 up on BST recently wasn't there? That's a good looking card.

I happen to agree with this. Infraction given to OP....1 strike in a 2 strike game...

And for the record anyone, with any experience, that says this is Joe's rookie card is an idiot. You can quote me.

****edited to add that the OP did have this card listed in another category for a week. The infraction is being reversed.

This is some tough crowd. I clearly began the thread by stating that I had already posted this card in the wrong category (pre-WWII). I was wondering why I did not receive many inquiries but then I figured out my error and reposted here.
And yes, the PWCC Vault "public links" were not functioning (I have no idea why, and they expire after a few days anyway), so I posted an alternative link to the Vault Marketplace which is visible to anyone who is registered there.
And yes, I then realised that the deadline for the December auction was that night, so I changed my mind and decided to list it. Believe me, I have no interest in paying auction fees if I think I can find a direct buyer here. I have successfully sold a five figure card to a member, as well as a complete graded set worth close to that amount, and several smaller sets and lots. I almost never consign to auction any more and would not really care to "market for an auction" here, however after scanning the FAQ a couple times I do not see anything which expressly prohibits this.
And finally, as to the status of this as a "rookie" card. I will stand by my position that this is a rookie card as it his first card in a major issue set, even though it has awarded me an "idiot" designation from the moderator. As for the two earlier issues, one is from a non-US set and the other from a 25 card, blank backed set that doesn't even have a name. I have been collecting for 35 years and have never met anyone who owned or cared about those sets.
And I'm sure all you folks who are taking such a hard line on this also do not consider 1986 Fleer to be Michael Jordan's rookie, right? Because of course that could only be his 1984-85 Star.
Happy collecting to all,
Ron

Default 1937 O-Pee-Chee and Goudey Premium Joe D. Cards

Let it be known that Joe D cards from these two sets -- his second year in the majors playing for a little known ball club in an irrelevant city -- are also not his rookie cards. I have never come across anyone that knows about or cares about his cards in these sets, reinforcing that Canada is only good for producing moose, maple syrup, beer, and non-rookie baseball cards...and the beer's not that good anyway. If you have any '37 O-Pee-Chee Joe D cards I suggest you contact me and I will pay a few bucks for them (which is a few bucks more than what they are worth...bupkis, which means zero in Canadian). You should thank me as I think I have proven my case that these are merely Canadian "step-children" of the true rookie 3rd year Goudey issuance in 1938.

Well that was good with you reading the rules, very few people do. And you did say "expressly" so I am sure you saw the catch-22 verbiage. No need to go there...

I don't care if you have been collecting and were pals with Burdick, it's still not his rookie card. I will take back the "idiot" part and just say I think you are wrong....

BTW, a lot of us on this forum DO care about those sets. You are just trying to pitch your card and that's fine. Just don't pitch a fallacy to people on this forum, who do this every day.
This below isn't in a set, right?

The 101 Jordan obviously is his RC by the way, even if Beckett chose to call it an XRC for reasons that don't stand the test of time. His 86 Fleer, still of course an iconic card, is a third year card.

The only people who argue about this are those who don't have a 101.
