Mark your Newcombe pennant is awesome. I scrolled back and found it (post #231). Don’t know of another vintage pennant with a facsimile autograph. I think it’s from another unknown company, it resembles the Yankees and Red Sox roster pennants that are from that era. The letters are a dead giveaway.

Nice observation Greg... I agree that the font is a match. Really fun to put these little pieces of info together after owning these things for so many years with little thought to who made them!

I just picked this up from JR. I'm surprised he didn't mention that it has "GREAT EYE APPEAL"
![]() This sort of fits in my Giants collection because the Giants played the Orions every spring from 1970-72. In 1971, the Orions conducted their entire Spring Training in AZ (a first) and ended with a game against the Angels in Anaheim and then two vs. the Giants in Candlestick. I would imagine the red, white and blue, with stars, was a nod to their American experience. This pennant is unlike anything we usually see - sewn on color panels and die cut lettering. I like it.

Rob- I almost bid on that Orions pennant, mostly because they owned (I think) and had players play on the 1972 (I think) California League team from Lodi (Lodi Orions). Did not know about the Giants connection. Glad you got it. The colors seem to be a clear match with that 1971 program.

Hi Rob,
Beautiful pennant. A bit OT, but I have a full, unused ticket to the Angels/Orion pre-season game if you would like it as a complimentary piece. Not Giants, but a solid tie-in. Last edited by Scott Garner; 09-27-2021 at 05:54 AM. |

Cool pennant for sure. It’s interesting how pennants from different countries look so different … Cuba, Japan, even Canadian pennants looked strange in the 1950s, then I think Trench started making CFLs …

Rob, that is a great looking pennant. How do you find these on eBay, since I don't see any reference to the Giants in the listing? Is "Orion pennant" one of your searches, or do you actually comb thru all the pennant listings on eBay? I did a quick "pennant" search, and it popped up over 137,000 listings

I happened to see the Orions pennant because jonsstats was the seller and I have him on a saved sellers list.
