Thanks Mark, I know you have some rare Jackie's on your wall. My hunt continues.

Rob, I agree, very unusual colors on this. Looks quite different than any other pennant I own, including the red version with Jackie in a circle.

Thanks Greg. I saw the condition of the 2 pennants you picked up from the same seller and was hoping this one was in as nice condition as yours appeared. The seller's photo's weren't the best so it was difficult to be certain as to the condition. I do keep all pennants in a room that has little direct light and lcd lighting, so they should be safe from fading.

The addition of those 2 Brooklyn Bum pennants must give you a pretty good collection of colorful bums. How many sets do you have of those? I don't have any yet myself, time to pick one up somewhere.

Rick, I have ten … all different in terms of color and material. I have six colors in felt (black, blue, two different purples, green, red) and now four different colors in cloth. Also have a LA Dodgers with Emmet Kelly.

That’s good that you can protect that pennant from UV. The rarity and the condition really make it one of a kind. You got a great deal, I could see that going for 10 grand in a private auction …

I know you have stated your preference for the cloth varieties, and I have to agree, especially in the Emmet Kelly pennants. I also have the LA version, but none of the Brooklyn ones yet.

You might be right on the value of the pennant, but I am certain it wouldn't get $10k if I were the consignor.

This is my only Jackie pennant, do you know that there is another “2nd baseman” version? I’ve seen it just once, I forget where ..

So I’ve seen four pennants of the above style, which I do believe were WGNs:

Robinson
Doby
Paige
Luke Easter? I think I have seen Easter before but a Google search pulls up nothing.

Cool how they did this for the early African American players, I wonder if there are any others.

Right, the 1st baseman version is from 1947, the 2nd baseman from (1948) and later, which he was moved to in order to make room for Gil Hodges. I have seen the 1947 version in both green and red, but the 1948 only in red, and it hasn't popped up for sale very often.

I have the '47 Jackie version in blue, and have also seen it in burgundy and in black.

I also have a Don Newcombe pennant that may or may not be made by WGN, and same thing for a Pee Wee Reese (which is 3/4 size).

And yes, the Luke Easter is definitely WGN (it looks just like the Paige pennant)

Mark your Newcombe pennant is awesome. I scrolled back and found it (post #231). Don’t know of another vintage pennant with a facsimile autograph. I think it’s from another unknown company, it resembles the Yankees and Red Sox roster pennants that are from that era. The letters are a dead giveaway.
