Looks like some kind of chemical deposit. That signature looks good enough to make it worthwhile to have a conservator look at it and see what can be done.
Meanwhile my big get for the...year:  Overpaid for it but when you see the right card for your collection, sometimes you have to say WTF, make your move. After all, I am Exhibitman...

1959 Stella:
  These two HOFers are the only ones I've seen in the set and fought a trio of classic 140# title fights, which is probably why Ortiz is in the set (the other fighters I've seen are all Italian).

Been awhile since I posted a pickup. Was happy to get this Nelson, I have no expectation of completing an 80 card master, but hoping to build 'as many as I can reasonably get'. The images in T224/T229 are fantastic quality for their small size. This one cost a bit more than I would want it too because it's 4 VG/EX range, but it's hard to being picky on condition with the tougher sets. 3 down, 77 to go.
