I am aware of the issues Tony Horton dealt with during his career, but I was wondering why he never appeared on a Topps card (aside from the leader card) - are the two related?

I found this article from 1985...values are quite outdated and fun, and a few good quotes from Sy Berger, including an explanation about Tony Horton...
https://www.nytimes.com/1985/09/29/s...thout-gum.html Some really excellent articles out there about Mr. Horton...tough story but glad he seemed to have figured out what made him ok...

$10000 for a 1952 complete set? I think I'd splurge. It is a big jump from 1979 - I have the first Sport Americana which was published that year and lists it at 4300, with the Mantle at 500 and high numbers at 34. Good times, huh? |

In checking I ended up with two of Bob Lemke’s Horton cards, 65 and 67. There are a bunch of copies from Bob’s creations for Horton on ebay now, but almost all seem to be on thin stock unlike Bob’s which wete on regular stock. Bob created many custom cards and those which proved popular got reproduced on 100 card sheets which he sold or which were sold after his death

My best friend and I were at Yankee Stadium for this fun confrontation between Horton and Steve Hamilton in 1970.
Horton and the Folly Floater It was an amazing day at the ballpark. Bobby Murcer hit four homers in the doubleheader, someone heaved a huge firecracker that landed next to Ray Fosse behind the plate and it scared the hell out of everyone, especially Fosse, and Vada Pinson took exception to Stan Bahnsen's tag at home plate and they squared off and threw punches. My blog post has a link to the next day's newspaper accounts.

I don't believe he is, unless you count his name being listed on the back among the leaders, which as you know typically included dozens of names;

My bad - when I made the original post, I would have sworn I recalled a small pick of Horton as one of 3 players on a Topps leader card...well, I've gone to my albums and google and am now convinced I must of imagined it. I was so positive too - I recall sometime way back when when I thought I discovered this that I thought "wow - I didn't think he was on any Topps cards!".
Turns out he wasn't and I've had a multi-point senior moment! |

Despite not signing with Topps, Horton has a Milton Bradley and Kellogg's issue.

Tony Horton Checklist
For a player who doesn’t have an individual Topps Baseball Card, there sure are a lot of other issues depicting Tony Horton. I count more than 30 items, including multiple food issues (Kahn’s, Kellogg’s, Little Caesar’s, Nabisco), a Sporting News Magazine cover, several posters (SI, Cleveland Press), and at least 5 different PCs (JD McCarthy, Cleveland Team Issue, Mike Anderson PCs). In addition to those below, there are numerous press photos, snapshots and modern fantasy cards of Tony Horton on ebay and other venues. The first four and last two items on the checklist below show Tony with the Boston Red Sox, the rest with the Cleveland Indians. The underlined items are also checklisted at the Trading Card Database website. Tony Horton Checklist

Here’s a few of my Tony Horton items. There is one interesting item that appears to be a premium from Little Caesars, measuring 5x7, from about 1970. I got this on ebay a few years ago and haven’t found out anything new about it. Any help would be greatly appreciated!
Would love to see other Tony Horton items, and maybe expand on the checklist further.

The checklist is really compiled from multiple sources, including the Standard Catalog, Trading Card Database, eBay, Worthpoint, and a few collector checklists. I have only pursued Tony Horton’s Cleveland cards, so I am not really familiar with the Boston issues. I am guessing there are other items to add to the list.

Bringing this thread back to life.
I am looking for a single signed Tony Horton ball. A friend has all the AL Champ Red Sox balls except for Tony. His Dad had the collection and he is trying to complete the set as an honor to his father. PLMK if you have one. Thanks

Not what you're looking for, Fred, but I do have one of these. Unfortunately, the printing is so bad that you can't really even make out his face. Almost like he's wearing a fencing mask, or he's the Mandalorian.
