This appears to be a signed letter from a Rich Cogan (Dick Cogan, Richard Henry Cogan) who later went on to become a professional baseball player. in the NL He played during the late 1890's and played for the New York Giants, Baltimore Orioles and also the Chicago Orphans.

This letters looks to be a letter from a friend from the NY Evening Post. There a bit about the NY Giants, and the Beaneaters as well a mention of Tim Keefe who apparently was a pitcher for the NY Giants 1891.
I have no idea this George "G. W' D." is but appears that he was right gin going with the "Beaneaters". |

Toward the bottom of this letter the sender seems to be excited about the game between the Phillies and Brooklyn, apparently 5 Home Runs in one game must have been a big deal.

Not too bad at back then compared to what that 1888 ball would sell for today.
