The boxes are valuable in reality. They are literally talking about the retail value of the boxes.
Its the cards, inside the packs, inside of the boxes that have theoretical value because they are unknown. The value of the boxes is not disputable just because prewar collectors do not collect modern cards or break boxes etc. Just like scratch off lottery tickets
