If they changed the set year, they'd have to pay for everyone who had one to ship it back and get it relabeled since that's their policy with "mechanical errors." So they may know it is wrong, but it's cheaper to leave it wrong than to fix it.
Their new part-owner is on Blowout (and here?), so if you want to go straight to the top, send him a message.
