I remember when this version was released and my wife first heard it....she called me in to our office and we listened to it a couple times before making our teenage kids also come hear it, see it, maybe even feel it.

Selfless.
Supportive.
Joyous.
It speaks to what I believe in.

Thanks for sharing, I wish I believed it would unite people in ways that much of the rest of societies interactions don't.
Most will simply watch and hear it and respond or not respond based on whether they believe in being those three things; selfless, supportive and joyous.

In 20 years of living in this country I saw 24 hours of the first two post 911.
The rest of the time, not so much.
When this pandemic came and asked of us to be more for one another, so very many simply sneered and turned away.

Robbie claims it's about Nazareth, Pennsylvania, where the Martin guitar factory was. But like many great songs, the listener can interpret it his or her own way and not be wrong. To me, there are clear religious overtones, starting with Nazareth, continuing with the Devil, and ending with Moses and Luke and Judgment Day.

I think it's also no coincidence Robbie asked one of the world's great gospel singers, Mavis Staples, to sing part of the song in the Last Waltz.

Try not to focus that people lost sight after 24 hours but that people found enlightenment for 24 hours.

100 I'll try to remember the good, this country was synonymous for so many decades as a Country with a soul, with a message, with a will to do right.
As an Aussie growing up in the 60's/70's/80's we looked at America as truly a shining beacon. It wasn't just us either, you'd never believe it but throughout the Mideast and elsewhere this place and it's people were adored.
Well, Ok in France they always had issues...

Thanks for bringing something good in to my day, free even from the contraversies of our inane love of bits of cardboard.
