During his career, Johnson amassed 10 full seasons with a sub 2.00 ERA and completed 531 of his 666 career starts. In my opinion the greatest pitcher lifetime and if he had a good team behind him he would have surpassed Cy Young in the all time wins column.

August 2, 1913, was the sixth anniversary of his first game pitching for Washington. President Wilson came out to honor Walter, and they gave him a huge solid silver trophy filled with cash. More importantly to his life (and mine!), it was his first date with Miss Hazel Lee Roberts, daughter of Nevada Congressman E.E. Roberts, as he invited them to the ballpark that day and would marry Hazel ten months later.
