What are the thoughts on this Satchel Paige "card" currently listed on eBay? I've been looking everywhere and can't find anything to support it being issued as part of a set or an advertising giveaway. Maybe a vintage prototype or something made decades later with a vintage look? Per the seller it measures 2.5 x 3.5 inches.
Fantasy item.

I hope that assessment is correct. It just sold for $211.50 to someone outbidding 9 other bidders.

The odds of a Satchel Paige card, previously unknown for 70 years, just now showing up are way less than 1%. There is a reason you couldn't find anything on the internet. Buyer will probably return it.

The photo is from 1948-49, and I'm pretty sure 2.5" x 3.5" cards weren't standard until 1957.

Just got this back from PSA. I don't know how the centering and overall eye appeal didn't at least earn it a 2.5, but there you go.

That's unreal. Spider crease?

Cards for sale: https://www.flickr.com/photos/185900663@N07/albums

I am actively buying and selling vintage sports cards graded and raw. Feedback as a buyer: https://www.net54baseball.com/showthread.php?t=297262

I am accepting select private consignments of quality vintage cards (raw or graded) and collecting "want" lists for higher end ($1K+) vintage cards.

What an outstanding example. I am confident most collectors would be very proud to have that “2” in their collection.

Thanks Matthew, this collector definitely is.

And Howard, there is a wrinkle running over his name. I bought the card raw from an old fellow in a parking lot, and I would hardly have noticed it if I hadn't brought my magnifying glass with me! Still, just great eye appeal and it's for my PC so the grade isn't all that important.

Beautiful Bowman, Jarrod.

Here's my Exhibits 1948 team card, inspired by this thread. Just back from SGC.

Should we just call all such fantasy cards designed to look old "Helmars" from now on? They seem to have defined these types of cards.

Nope. there are a bunch of others that sell regularly on eBay: Banty Red, Aceo, etc. Can't even really call them Broders anymore since there are more post-Broder cards than Broders.
