I'd go with the 57 Mantle as well. Still affordable in low-mid grade.

High-grade top HOFs in the Ps: P1, P2, PM10, Mrs. Sherlock's, etc. From my observation, the nice ones are getting sucked up into collections quickly, significant price increases bound to follow. I've seen two beautiful WaJo "1924 Pennant Winners" go for just over a grand recently (I sold one of them), and that has to be a good deal any way you cut it. It had been about five years since I had seen one on the market before that. Blankets and felts would be my second choice for a good place to put your thousand today.

If I had a thousand bucks to just blow on sports cards and not worry about loosing the money I think that I would purchase as many raw, high grade looking cards of Soto and Tatis cards to set aside and wait.(after getting the graded) Maybe in five years they appreciate at or close to the Trout cards so I dump them then and hopefully I've made enough to purchase a nice Cobb card.
