The local Riverside California paper periodically will print an article about Chief Meyers because he's a local boy that made good. Here's a picture of his Riverside High School baseball team which includes "Jack" Meyers, seated in the second row, second from left. The photo is circa 1896.
Meyers returned to this area and became a police chief for the Mission Indian Agency in 1933. Meyers often attended old timers’ games for the Dodgers and the Giants, especially after those teams moved to California. He died in July 1971 and is buried in Bloomington’s Green Acres Cemetery.

This is an early photo of two "Chiefs". It is John Tortes “Chief” Meyers (left) of the New York Giants and Albert “Chief” Bender of the Philadelphia A’s at the 1911 World Series. (Photo: Library of Congress)

Default San Diego Pickwicks 1907

Walter Johnson at left, Chief Meyers third from left. Meyers caught Johnson three times in a five-game series against the Los Angeles Angels PCL club for the "Championship of Southern California."

How many catchers caught both Matty and Walter? Maybe just one. The Chief also caught Johnson in a 1909 exhibition game.

My only Meyers photo..it's from the Baseball Magazine archives. If anyone knows the photographer I'd appreciate the info. Also of note this appears to be the image used for his 1911 Turkey Red cabinet.
