Al, so 50 cents got you into every game for a full season? I know the Browns weren't very good, but that still seems like a pretty good deal.

Looks like from referenced conditions on back of pass that the 50 cents involved taxes and fees that had to be paid with each entry using pass

Not sure what he thought of it, but this is apparently how he got it.

Willie Jones most likely got his nickname from a song. In the early 1930s, a popular tune on the radio was Puddin’ Head Jones. The lyrics told of a slow-witted chap who was down on his luck:

Oh, Puddin’ head Jones was fat and funny
Dumber than sticks and stones
Now that is just why the kids all called him
Woodenhead, Puddin’ Head Jones

Default Joe Page......Ace Relief Pitcher

Mgr. Stengel would bring Joe Page into the game as early as the 6th inning. Joe would completely shut out the opposing
team. At most, allowing only one Hit or a Walk in those 4 innings. You had to see him pitch, he was absolutely amazing.

I agree, Ted.

I posted this before but for those that didn't know, Johnny Sain was the first pitcher Jackie Robinson faced in his MLB debut and he also has the distinction of being the last pitcher Babe Ruth faced in organized ball.

Also, between himself and Warren Spahn, who were one of the best dynamic duos ever, a famous poem was born because of them and it goes like this.

First we'll use Spahn
then we'll use Sain
Then an off day
followed by rain
Back will come Spahn
followed by Sain
And followed
we hope
by two days of rain.

Anyways, here are my 2 copies. A graded black back correct bio and Page bio black back that I likely should get graded...

Hi Dale...... Some here on this forum may not agree with you and I regarding Johnny Sain.
To them, I suggest they read Johnny's SABR story.... https://sabr.org/bioproj/person/johnny-sain/

His post-Pitching days really tell the story of Johnny. Starting with the Yankees in 1961 (Whitey Ford and Jim Bouton). Johnny went on to be the most successful
Pitching Coach in modern BB.

In 1965 with Johnny, the Twins won their 1st pennant ("Mudcat" Grant, Jim Katt).

In 1968, Detroit was the World Champions thanks to Johnny's coaching of Mickey
Lolich and Denny McLain (31-game winner).

In 1972, Johnny became Pitching coach for the White Sox. "Goose" Gossage's rookie year. Gossage said...... "before Johnny Sain, I was just a power thrower, he
made me a Pitcher".

P.S.....I had a nice conversation with Denny McLain a few years ago at the Philly Show. I brought up the subject of Johnny Sain and Denny spent about 15 mins.
telling me all these great stories of how Sain was responsible for his success, and the Tigers beating the Cardinals in the 1968 World Series.

I'm still trying to figure out why the third one got a MC qualifier. Here's the back.

Has to be a mistake. It's not even OC let alone MC. Maybe you could send it in and wait a year to have them regrade it.

X2. Maybe they were hoping he'd Please Submit Again.

That aside, I was told this card, Marv Rickert, was a fairly tough card to find in great shape with a black back? Can anyone confirm that?

My Marv Rickert BB still sports the sticker on the toploader it came in several years ago (price has been Photoshopped out). Looks like I got a relative bargain compared to today's asks.

That's a nice copy, Dave.
I remember when I was chasing mine down how difficult it was to find a decently centered one and one without the top corner pulls like you can see in the top right of mine. I've looked occasionally for an upgrade but there doesn't seem to be a lot and if there is, it is usually selling for a premium.
I guess I answered my own previous question.

I have no idea what I paid for my Rickert or how difficult it was to find, but clearly, I wasn't concerned about centering when I bought it. This is one of the few cards I have posted so far where the T/B centering is off. Usually, it has been the L/R centering that is the problem. Actually, the centering on the red back is decent for a change for me.

Is the right side not cut straight? It looks curved towards the top.

Maybe, but it seems to be straight in person. The curve at the top right seems to result from the angle of the scan, since you can see the same thing on a lot of my cards (looks similar to the black-back Rickert above).

PSA's MC description: Cards that exhibit an atypical cut for the issue, which may result in portions of the subject card being cut off or more than one card being visible due to it's oversized nature will be designated MC. https://www.psacard.com/resources/gradingstandards

Imo, Bob's card doesn't display any of those attributes. Clearly, and just my opinion again, PSA messed up.
