I have to admit to being in that camp as well, then I got a hold of a CD called "Stripped" where they basically do some songs with minimal accompaniment and managed to find some appreciation...

That said, I'll contribute:

"Eddie Van Halen was NOT a great guitar player."

He certainly mastered the fretboard and played fast but wasn't particularly innovative.

I wouldn't necessarily disagree. I think his impact in terms of popularizing tapping was very large, but he wasn't the most skilled player we've seen.

I'll also contribute. I think Pink Floyd is good but I have a very difficult time listening to them. I don't doubt their artistry, but I feel like I might need to be on an acid trip to truly enjoy them

I don't particularly like the Grateful Dead Either.

Granted my knowledge of their catalogue is limited, but Hungry Like the Wolf is such a great song.

Default My stars, you guys get it!

U2 - stinks
Eric Clapton - blech
Grateful Dead - horrible
Country music - all sounds the same
Radiohead - overrated

Duran Duran - underrated! Great band.

I’ll go a bit further here: The B-52’s , that first album, that is a KILLER album. “Dance This Mess Around” is a banger.

The music scene post grunge (not that I was “into” grunge that much) took such a nosedive from 1995 to 2002. System of the Down? Linkin Park? Any of that late 90s BS? Un-f’ing-listenable. I was actually listening to a lot of salsa, bachata (just becoming BIG in NYC after being relegated to Sunday morning’s from 7am-9am on 97.9 FM) and cumbia from 95-02 because music really just died.

It really wasn’t until Yeah Yeah Yeahs , The Strokes, TV on the Radio, Vampire Weekend and other NYC bands came about in early 2000s that music came alive again. You can say something good about hipsters: their music was really good.
