Default PWCC Auction, T206 Madness

Tonight's auction closed with this insanity: a T206 PSA 5 Mullin (horizontal) sold for $3,241. Went from $971 to over $3,000 in the last 8 seconds. 32 bids, identities protected. What am I missing here?

I've been relegated to the sidelines with this insanity. This can't continue, can it?!

I did see that but $3,000+? The card had a print mark or chip on his face too.
Maybe 2 guys bidding against each other at the last minute to complete an Elite 11 subset?

Default Mullin

A Piedmont 350 Mullin is an elite 11. A psa 5 sold for 5,000 in August in the David Hall auction. This price was actually a "good deal"

You are welcome to say that but per the rule at the top of every page you need to have your name out here. Thanks..

Personally I think that is an insane price for that kind of common but I also understand the collecting bug. Been there done that.

Jim is my name, didn't realize my name was needed. Is that because of what I said? I am new here, but probably have over 30 posts, and have never been told that before? Sorry if I was against protocol. Also, I have seen examples and experienced their shill bidding first hand.

didn't realize my name was needed

It's old school here, quite refreshing actually. If you're going to say something about somebody, good or bad, you gotta stand behind it with your name. Keeps the crazies from posting stupid stuff and hiding behind an alias.

I figured it was easy just to throw my name out there. It's easier than having to watch what I say.

Circling back to OP's point, I picked up two T206's tonight, both in my mind at good value. But then again I'm not an investor.

Is it Kosher to win a card from said auction, not pay for it with currency but to pay for it with leverage? Meaning sending in other cards as collateral covering the cost of said winnings, further having them relist the card from their same auction house a couple months down the road? I've noticed last year that several of the exact same card, same slab, same serial number, coming back up for auction 3-4 times in one year with same auction house?

I have no idea????

When this happens it's hard for me to gauge the true market value of said card. IDK weird

I understand not realizing. That said this statement is at the top of every page, in bold letters=

If you write anything concerning a person or company your full name needs to be in your post or obtainable from it.

People don't see it a lot of times. Also, as it says, your full name needs to be out here. That means your full name not only an initial. You can scramble it if you want to in order to prevent searches finding it. Thanks...

I use the Tapatalk app, and do not see the statement. That said, I now know, and I will follow proper requirements, thank you.

Default Elite

It appears that VCP now breaks out the Piedmont 350 back separately for the subjects of the Elite 11 or 12. Looks like it may have been created for the Hall auction as that is the only result shown for each (other than the PWCC Mullin).

Big numbers.

That was a very presentable PSA 2 with a little paper loss in the factory line on the back. I was in on that card at $6822 and was bummed it went that high. Every time I find one I would be happy to own I am anywhere for $800-1500 under what it sells for. I agree that $7655 was very strong.

Frankly, it just seemed like everyone was a bit trigger happy this go-around (myself included - I got way too attached to a Wild Bill Donovan and went 15% higher than I had targeted). Lots of cards going for a good chunk healthier than recent comps.

Might be people spending their end of year bonuses, might be new collectors starting to move into vintage, could be speculators on the high end.

I suppose the upcoming Heritage lots and the February block will show if this is a blip or the beginning of a sustained uptrend.

We started that just before the Hall auction when I started noticing that the 350 back was selling at a much higher premium. Believe me I regret doing it because it has really increased the work load...but it is better for the members.

I add -pwcc to all my ebay searches now. Their prices don't make sense to me and don't even get me started on that pwcc_vault account

It's a longtime rule. People can post anonymously, but if someone posts critically about a specific person or auction house they have to use their name. A rule to keep people honest.

I'm sure what you posted was shared in thought, and said, by others.

Welcome, if you're new.

i was the underbidder on the Mullin and disappointed I didn't win it, although I know it went to a good home.
