“Official“ cards that never were

After seeing the second card, I will say I originally thought the blank space was a masking agent like whiteout, not his jersey. That is a much better card look. But most likely, it was easier to start from scratch than to dredge up a 10-year-old proof from the archives.

There were a ton of these put out by Topps in the early 2000's, there was the 150 card annual "All Time Fan Favorites" set that featured past players on older Topps designs for a few years especially that had a ton of them.

Others were handed out at Nationals in the mid 2000's, players missing from classic Topps designs like this Ford:

This falls into the “less interesting” category for me. I think I’m more interested in cards shown on other cards, like the moles noted above, than a brand new creation.

I don't know if this would qualify within the parameters of this thread, and even if it does I may be misremembering and/or misidentifying it, but let's see...

I seem to recall the 1963 Topps Rookie Banquet program had an image of a 1963 Pete Rose rookie card that just shows him by himself, as if it were a regular card.

If memory serves me right the image used on the "card" in the program was the same as the one used on the actual 1964 Topps card (which would make sense because the image used on the actual '63 Rookie Stars card is just his head extracted from that photo).
