I have found that you either have a good baseball or you don't. MLB balls are generally seen as being safe baseballs, but I've seen a ton of rough Brown balls that have discolored a lot over time. I've seen some other Selig balls with the same spotting. I don't think there is any way to keep it from happening. It's either inevitable or not.
