I picked up this 44" X 35" 1971 Pirates welcome banner (pic 1). I have a similiar 40" X40" street banner (pic 2). However, this recent pick up differs in that it is a light weight synthetic fabric and has no means to hang it. The version in pic 2 is a canvas material and is reinforced at the top with grommets for hanging. I have been told that these were hung around the city obviously to celebrate the Pirates victory. The seller of the recent pick up communicated that the banner was discovered in a home that was being cleaned out in Maryland. I have no idea what its purpose was. Has anyone else seen this version before?

Nice pickup, Mike! Are the graphics the exact same size? I’m thinking they are. If so, that and the fact your new one is not centered on the material makes me think it could have been a test run for the grommeted one.

You may be correct Rob. They are the same size and there is a yellow ink transfer on the D and what appears to be a Red bleed area along the top boarder. Your theory is plausible. The fabric is machine stitched around the boarder to prevent fraying? It also seems odd they would do a test run on a fabric they didnt use in the final production. I have a large 1971 NL Championship stadium banner that is made of this same synthetic material. Thanks for your thoughts.

Default Cleveland Baseball Magazines

I was fortunate to add two seldom-seen items to my Cleveland Baseball Magazines Collection this month

-1950 Aug Negro Digest Magazine with Luke Easter on the cover.

-1962 Hit Magazine (Venezuela) with Mgr Mel McGaha on the cover.

The Luke Easter mag (about as big as Baseball Digest) has been on my wantlist for some time. Happy to add this issue, despite the vertical crease mark.

I was unaware of the Mel McGaha magazine cover until it popped up on ebay.

I now have about 105 different Cleveland Baseball cover subjects. Always looking for more!

Got 4 new items.
First one was from several months ago, but I did not post at the time as I had been busy, but two of the new items fit together with the first so i decided to post them all together.

I now have the complete set of Lou Gehrig Columbia yearbooks
I got the 1922 several months ago and the 23 and 24 this month.
Am thrilled to be able to add them and thanks to those who made them available to me.

Lastly was a pair of 1960 NY Mets souvenir mugs.

Default 8.5 Blue Stitched Baseball

Can anyone tell me about this ball. Saw it nd picked it up for a song. Roughly 8.5 inches in circumference. Thoughts would be appreciated. Thanks
