Here's the back of the 1957 Brooks postcard. Hard to see the postmark date through the address, but it's Aug 14, 1957. SCAN8229.JPG |

Thanks! That back is “almost“ as nice as the front and all in Brooks hand. Wonder when Brooks started signing these ‘57 postcards; would be neat to know.

Day109 (April 18, 2020 – 109)
When I was younger, I really didn’t care for the baseball related stamps, but now I personally like stamps. In 1961 Topps inserted stamps which were around 1 38” x 1 3/16” into wax packs in panels of two. The stamps are unnumbered and pictured on brown or on green stamps. 1961 Topps Stamp panel – Brooks Robinson and John Buzhardt Day 109 1961 Topps Stamp Panel.jpg Since we’re in 1961 I’ll also include a working press pass. 1961 Orioles Working Press Pass Day 109 1961 Working Press Pass.jpg |

The 1971 Dallas Fort Worth Spurs finished the season with a 82-59 record in the Texas league (good for 2nd Place). They played in Turnpike Stadium which was retrofitted into Arlington Stadium the next year when the Rangers moved in (and subsequently played in for 20 seasons):
Here is their Team Photo with notable inclusions Mike Reinbach, Don Hood, Jesse Jefferson, Dyar Miller, Doug DeCinces, Enos Cabell, Wayne Garland, Tom Walker, Cal Ripken Sr. (MGR) & Junior Kennedy. ![]() I always loved the "Mod Squad" look of their program: ![]() ![]() Here is a nice vintage postcard of Turnpike Stadium that I had Cal Ripken Sr. sign with the year he managed there: ![]() ![]() Last edited by roarfrom34; 04-18-2020 at 07:59 AM. |

Staying in 1971, here is a Rochester Red Wings program/roster insert (from the Little World Series vs. Denver) from the first season that Joe Altobelli managed there...While Cal Sr. wasn't the manager I remember picking this program up because he is pictured on the cover from the season prior:

You might be interested to know that the 1971 program also comes with a much tougher to find B&W photo on the front. |

Great stuff. Here's a team issued photo of Mike Reinbach. He died tragically at only 39 in an automobile accident. In the early 90's, Crown Central Petroleum sponsored a few sets of Orioles cards. Crown had long been associated with the Orioles and Brooks Robinson. Several items have been posted previously, including a few cards from the 1991 Crown set that had 501 cards. I remember being excited about the 1991 set because it was advertised as having cards of every player to appear for the Orioles. I was greatly disappointed when I found out that a lot of players in the set weren't pictured in their Orioles uniform. Crown should have given me a call and I could have helped them out.
![]() I don't remember the 1992 Crown set being posted yet. The set is similar to the Johnny Pro stand ups from 1973 and were designed to punched out, attached to the base and stood up. They were issued in three sets of four cards and are still fairly easy to find today. SCAN8510.jpg The set consisted of 12 players - Paul Blair, Terry Crowley, Rick Dempsey, Bobby Grich, Tippy Martinez, Jim Palmer, Boog Powell, Cal Ripken Jr, Brooks Robinson, Frank Robinson, Ken Singleton and Earl Weaver Brooks Robinson and Cal Ripken Jr Stand Ups SCAN8506.JPG SCAN8505.JPG Last edited by BaltOrioles; 06-10-2020 at 05:26 AM. |

It's interesting that the stamp panel of Brooks also includes John Buzhardt. Buzhardt had a nice career, mainly with the Chicago White Sox. He also had stops with the Chicago Cubs, Philadelphia Phillies and Houston Astros. Finding items of John Buzhardt aren't that difficult. One of my collecting goals is to have a photo of some kind of every player to ever appear for the Orioles, but pictured in their Orioles uniform. John Buzhardt tops the list as the only player to wear an Orioles uniform that I've never seen anything with him pictured as an Oriole. He appeared briefly for the Orioles in 1967. I wish somebody on the site can please prove me wrong. For the record, here's my top five list. John Buzhardt 1967 Grady Hatton 1956 Roger Marquis 1955 Buddy Peterson 1957 Sam Jones 1964 Honorable mentions go to Wally Westlake 1955, Babe Birrer 1956 and Shane Turner 1991 Westlake and Birrer have team issued postcards that I've seen, but I only have copies of them. I have copies of photos of Hatton, Marquis and Peterson from other collections. I been lucky to find a Sam Jones and within the last 6 months finally found a photo of Shane Turner. Such a neat endeavor. You would think it has to be "possible" and "likely" that they had some type of picture taken as an Oriole, but the short timers could definitely be a needle in a hay stack. Of course when you do pick them up you definitely have to post and hopefully someone here can help with your goal. |

Day 110 (April 19, 2020 – 110)
In 1973 Johnny Pro Enterprises of Baltimore put out a set of 28 Orioles cards that are numbered by the players uniform. These are great looking “punch-out” cards in my opinion and are fairly large; they measure around 4”x6”. Love the green background with the player featured in full color. 1973 Johnny Pro batting Day 110 a 1973 Johnny Pro Stand up Batting.jpg 1973 Johnny Pro fielding Day 110 b 1973 Johnny Pro Stand up Fielding.jpg |

The 1972 Asheville Orioles finished the season 81-58 and won their division although they lost in the playoffs.
Notables include Cal Ripken Sr. (MGR), Paul Mitchell, Royle Stillman, Doug DeCinces, Dave Johnson (one of three Orioles to have that name), Mike Reinbach, Jim Fuller & Tim Nordbrook. Also pictured is Mark Weems (who tragically drowned in Venezuela on New Years Day 1974 while out with Don Hood, Wayne Garland & Bob Bailor) and Don Hickey who has been mentioned by both Cal Jr. & Billy to me as being their favorite player when they were kids. ![]() Their program was not a traditional one in that in was more like a folded scorecard with an insert: ![]() ![]() For those who might be interested, here are Cal Jr.'s remembrance of that season in Ashville: https://www.journalnow.com/sports/na...a4bcf6878.html Last edited by roarfrom34; 04-19-2020 at 08:51 AM. |

It's a labor of love for sure. Believe it or not the Orioles themselves don't have photos of some players to appear for them. A few guys were picked up while the Orioles were on the road and released before they got back to Baltimore. As you will notice, I prefer posed or head shots over action shots, where it's difficult to see the player's face Here are a few more toughies to find pictured as Orioles. A few had great careers after leaving Baltimore or arrived at the end of successful careers.
