Day 74 (March 14, 2020 – 074)
This Transogram advertising cardboard piece is from 1969 and features the American League players that were in the collector series of figures. As you can probably see they have Frank listed as Brooks and Brooks listed as Frank. Reminds me of a Frank quote: "I don't see why you reporters keep confusing Brooks (Robinson) and me. Can't you see that we wear different numbers." It’s so funny that they say the figures are in “realistic action”; ha! 1969 Transogram advertising Day 74 a Baseball transogram ad.jpg I’ll follow this piece up with the Brooks Robinson 1969 Transogram box along with the “realistic action” figure. Man, it looks like I need to pick up another Brooks Transogram box in nicer shape. 1969 Transogram Day 74 b front.jpg Day 74 c back.jpg I have the Brooks "card" cut out, fairly neatly, as well... I remember those figures well as a kid. I didn't really care for them then and still have a hard time warming up to them. As an 11 year old, I was more interested in the cards on the back, so my boxes got all cut up and the figures didn't last the riggers of play. I may attempt to pick up unopened boxes again someday. ![]() Here's the rest of the 1969 Orioles and the tougher 1970 Boog Powell. I think mom cut out the Boog Powell card. 1969 Transogram.jpg 1970 Transogram.JPG |

Knoxville, Tennessee was the home of the Orioles Class A affiliate in the South Atlantic League in 1957-58. Today, I'll focus on the 1957 team. They finished 81-73 and were managed by future O's coach George Staller.
The two program variations 1957 Knoxville Smokies #1.jpg 1957 Knoxville Smokies #2.jpg The Orioles farm system was becoming more productive, producing a bunch of players to play for the Orioles (some on the way up and some on the way down). The list includes Ray Barker, Fred Besana, Leo Burke, Angelo Dagres, Jack Fisher, Chuck Locke, Milt Pappas, Jim Pyburn and Willie Tasby. A few players I'll post photos of as the year progresses, but here's a few. By the way if you do decide to attempt to pick up unopened boxes I'm sure I have another Brooks example although you can see what type of shape it's in. |
