Corey,
I love the group image. I am away from some of my research books right now, but I would check the images of other sports writers in Athletic Sports and Spink’s National Game, first. I think it very likely they are sportswriters as it looks like it could be a field with the fence in the background, they seen to have programs of some sort of writing material, and a carriage would make sense for a special event of some sort. I can’t read the writing at the bottom, can you make it out? Also, I have seen reference to the fact that the Brooklyn photographer, Pearsall, was a friend and took Chadwick’s portrait every year on his birthday. Pearsall May be in the photo, or may have taken it. Right now I can’t think of any other books that have lots of images of other sportswriters, but I will check when I can. |

Could be "Edward"?

The building in back looks like the building at Washington Park in Brooklyn. He attended the 1908 Opening Day there.

Very interesting! It does resemble Harry Pulliam. If this image is Opening Day 1908, that might explain why the family saved it, as that was the year Chadwick died. To go further, it is reported that Chadwick died shortly thereafter from pneumonia he contracted covering Opening Day. So if in fact that is the occasion for this image, this might be Chadwick's final (baseball) photo.

If 1908, even more interesting. Will check for other sports writers this week.
