It's hard to put a number on a collection like this without seeing the condition of the cards. That's why no one has offered a monetary value. Are these binder sets where all of the cards grade between Authentic-3? Are the cards even worth grading? If they need to be graded, that also costs money and is a fee you will incur. I'm assuming that's what most of them will be since, as you said, "a kid put these together."

Maybe the newer sets are in nice condition, but I'm not expecting much from the early '50s sets.

Look at the sets, and offer what you are comfortable. If you are flipping the collection it will take a lot of work, and possibly time if you have seen the latest PSA turn around times on submissions.

I saw the pictures. They were nice. It's out of my league. I suggested that he post here, and he's planning to do that, so someone has a chance to get a very nice collection...I'm hoping he'll sell me the '70s stuff separately, but maybe not.

I can't tell you how much it's killing me that I'm not going to own these cards. I'm never going to get offered a collection like this again.

Likely 95% of us on here would feel the same way as this is stuff dreams are made of.

Good luck with whatever decision you come too.

If your purpose in looking at them was to turn around and sell them, you could try to get an investment loan. That would give you some leeway to cherry pick one or two sets, and then sell the rest. Was he asking top dollar?
