You'll always face good teams in the post season, although I would argue the 1966 Dodgers and 1969 Mets were not hard-hitting teams - they just had the best pitching in the NL.

If you want to choose an Oriole, McNally was better than Palmer in the WS: 4-2, which is the same, but much lower ERA, 2.34 to 3.20. Even Cuellar had a better WS ERA at 2.61.

Palmer beat Koufax in Game 2; no one thought that would occur.

In Game 2, Willie Davis made 3 consecutive errors and Palmer was the recipient of 6 runs (3 of them unearned.)

But yes, Palmer shut out the Dodgers that year. So did Wally Bunker, Dave McNally, and Moe Drabowsky for 6 2/3 innings.

See...if you’re going to name Orioles I liked all of those pitchers. May of selected them as well if there was that choice. McNally and Cuellar were actually my favorites back in the day and not Palmer even though I did like him as an Oriole pitcher.

That would be the team that beat Palmer in Game 3 when he yielded 4 earned runs in 6 innings of work. To put that in perspective, during the 1969 regular season, the Mets were ninth out of 12 NL teams in runs scored.



I like Palmer, and the fact he was generally better than Hunter year after year but didn't get the recognition he deserved. But I don't think he was a front-line money pitcher if you needed one game.
