One thing about the Beckett holders, they are virtually impossible to put back together once cracked.
As for sub grades, I think they are a good idea. But I also like the idea of Authentic Unaltered as the ONLY grade. LOL .....kind of takes out the whose is bigger question....as well as much of the money aspect. So it won't be a go. .

I think of Beckett as the place to send refractor stuff. I don't have many Beckett holders, but I would buy any card I needed no matter what kind of holder it's in. My favorite is penny sleeve and top loader, followed by cardsaver, then PSA (only b/c the slabs are thinner than SGC and Beckett). Here's one from today's mailbag that looks like it was graded a while ago. I'm leaving it as it sits, even though I think it would present better in a toploader. Rob

If I may piggyback on this thread, does anyone know what the reasoning is behind BGS and some PSA tobacco cards being put in a penny sleeve, and then sonically sealed? I have some PSA T206s that are in the penny sleeve and some not. I was just curious as I don't really care for the look with the sleeve myself.
Thank you and sorry if posting this question here is not good form. |

BGS does it with every card, so at least they're consistent.
PSA does it when the card doesn't fit the holder perfectly and they either need to hold it in place. Sometimes they do it when the card is fragile and might get more damaged in the holder. You can make the request on a submission (or a reslabbing) that they not use "mylar sleeves" but it is up to the person who is actually putting your cards in the holder.
