VBC guide indicates these were “heavily counterfeited in 2002.”
I have nothing super-white in the big set I completed back in the 1970’s. |

I've heard that story too, but there are also Wheaties collectors who say they've never seen a counterfeit. Which would be odd. The other thing is, with the woodcut style images you think there would be issues with the tiny parallel lines in a counterfeit, not to mention the small print. The Mikan in question has an image that matches up perfectly with none of the typical tell-tale flaws of a counterfeit, just the oddly white paper. As soon as I get it scanned I will post, next to some "regular" examples.

Well if it is from l and t I think you know the answer. I remember some that didn’t seem kosher floating around years ago. I believe some got slabbed but I always avoided them because they just didn’t seem right to me. It’s an issue I would not say I am an expert on but I have seen my share over they years and I remember not liking them and I do know that they tended to be amazingly clean. Can’t wait to see the images.

Hey Glyn, wonder if they're the same source as the Double plays I'm pretty sure some of those have been slabbed. I have a complete set acquired in a collection and I was excited for about 5 seconds.
The source on the Wheaties card is local, but not from a problematic consignor (you know what I mean) however the consignor in question did unfortunately get hoodwinked a few times. We had to inform the consignor that their 1934 Goudeys were trimmed and a large handful of Diamond stars as well.
