The attached link is about the 1917 scandal, and what also is interesting is they mention Detroit pitcher Bill James. The same Bill James that made it on to the 1919 White Sox late in the season and did pitch 4.2 innings in the series giving up 8 hits annd 4 runs. Now maybe he was just washed up, or maybe...just maybe there were more than 8 men out. LOL

I always thought Bill James and Byrd Lynn probably knew about the fix before the series started...James based on his involvement in the 1917 "fix" stuff and Lynn bc he was TIGHT with Jackson (WS roomate) and Lefty Williams...also both James and Lynn were West Coast PCL players...as were a vast majority of banned players (Gandil, Gedeon, Risberg, Williams, Chase, McMullin, Weaver)

Default 1919 Black Sox

Continuing this thread. I noticed the current Written Word auction has a Buck Weaver signature (signature attached). It does not look quite right to me, but am wondering if there are any other opinions.

Pretty sure that's the 2nd time this one has been up for sale this year. Guessing it didn't sell the first time. I'm not an expert on sigs., but I too
checked it out a few months back and compared to his other sigs and this one just does not look like his others.

Also, a pretty common name, so worried its just another George Weaver.

Last, I think that Written Word has a few bad reviews if you do a search.

So just too many red flags.

It could be an early sig. Threre are a couple of tells that occur in later sigs too but also some that are very different. With that said, I avoid anything these days if my conclusion is it "could be". I know it's a hard one to find, but tread carefully. Good luck.

Default Joe Jenkins Info Card

Bought a lot of 1919 Sox Heilbroner Info Cards which included a signed Dick Kerr but really was after this one. I feel ths "This is correct" is in Jenkins hand, but the pencil "Joseph" probably isnt. Anyone out there have a Joe jenkins autograph? This is the closest I have come

The Reds is the cover of the Roto section in the Chicago Sunday Tribune on Sept 21, 1919.

The Sox is a blank backed supplement to the same paper dated a week earlier (Sept 14, 1919).

Both are about 12 X 17.5 inches.

Here's a piece that is a little bit off the beaten path from most of my Black Sox collection.

Its a piece of sheet music picturing the vaudeville act, the 4 Cook Sisters. Helen Cook, of the group, would go on to become Buck Weaver's wife.

Jason you are right it is very much off the beaten path.

But that is a great tie in to this thread.

Love it
