So this post motivated me of taking a picture of a similar card. It is from 2007, when Topps was making a bunch of Mickey Mantle cards. This one I pulled from a pack myself. The two interesting things about this card:
1. There is masking tape on the front of it.
2. The card is torn about a third of the way through where the tape is.

Here are the pictures:

I went and took pictures of just my Yankees errors. Not a lot of cards, only six cards in total. Only one is pre-1980, it is this 1976 Jim Hunter:

I collect error cards of all sorts, including severly damaged, modified and defaced cards. BUT most of them are post 1980, so should I end up posting them into here, make a thread similar to this in the Modern Baseball cards section, or just make a thread for my own pictures? There is a lot of post 2000 content in this collect, including a lot of hockey cards.

We have had several post 80 variants in this thread but given the length of this thread it might be good to have a post 80 sister thread. Others may think otherwise.

That tape job is interesting. Maybe since the tape was added before insertion in the pack it qualifies as an intentional change to the card and thus a true variation

1968 Topps - [Base] #369 - The Sporting News All Star Selection (Carl Yastrzemski)

Two recurring print defects on this one:
1) Black blemish in left banner
2) Red circle fisheye near B on cap

So three variations: regular, one with just black mark, and one with black mark and fisheye.

Default Is 1967 Topps yellow back a thing?

Hi there,

I've been lurking a while and saw something that might be of discussion here. Saw this 1967 Topps Wilhelm card and the back was discolored. Does anyone know if this is fading or weird ink circumstances? I've seen others like this from different series (no apparent pattern), and one card who's back was brownish. I don't know what to make of it.

Looks like the printing process was running low on green ink to me on the 1967 Wilhelm card.

So basically a sister variation to the Jackie Robinson with diamond logo cut off.

There is also a variation of this with white circle to the left of the Phillies ballcap in the diamond logo. I stopped counting when I saw 5 on COMC.

John---here is SCD article on the Robinson and Herm. Note the Herm has a back variation that tracks the truncated front logo. Had not noticed the white mark

1958 Topps - [Base] #433 - Pancho Herrera
Courtesy of COMC.com

While the vast majority of fisheyes are non-recurring, this one on the left side of Pancho Herrera's 1958 card is a recurring print defect. And of course, this one has the other standard defect of the missing A in his last name.
