I know you did not grow up in WWF territory, but Slaughter's "Cobra Clutch Challenge" was such a hot angle when I was a kid. Week after week, he would challenge a jobber to try and break the hold, and, of course, none of them could. Rick McGraw came close, but the fans went absolutely nuts when Pat Patterson got up from the broadcast table to accept the challenge.

When the Grand Wizard (Ernie Roth) died in real life while managing Slaughter, for the next several television matches, Slaughter would turn before his match and look around for the Wizard to hand him his hat and whistle. I thought that was such a cool thing to have a heel do.
