I have collected all 5 of the Topps 1951 sets, including then 51 red backs in singles and panels. My singles sets all have darker backs with 3 exceptions, the variant Holmes as manager, Zernial traded to Phils and Hegan with the broken "r" in right handed...those are all white. My panel set, in what was called above a hanger pack, appear white. I assume opened it would have the Zernial Phil, Holmes manager and Hegan with the defective r.

My '51 Topps MLAS commons don't seem to have a cream variant, but maybe I'll have to keep looking.

The Roberts is not a common and the other 2 are Uncommon Commons

Those 3 fill a black hole in my 51 set

Yeah, you're right, Al, Roberts is a HOF'er. They say that a black hole is a transport mechanism through space and time, so if we jump into one - and somehow survive - we could go back to the summer of 1951 and mosey into the Topps offices in Brooklyn and buy all the uncut sheets of MLAS our little minds could desire - for maybe twenty five bucks, or so. Where would the controls be located on a black hole, I wonder?

Those brilliant white stock cards don't seem to tone or fade. The alternate, dingier stock gets grimier as the years pass. Whatever that brilliant white stock was made of is amazing.
