I think it is modern as well. It has some of the same characteristics as the SF Seals Pennant I had that turned out to be not very old. It has the same cut to the tassels, the same sort of layering of material, and there does not appear to be a way to insert a stick (i.e., it appears that stitching closes off the potential opening at the top and bottom). If I recall, we got info from another member that the Seals Pennant was made by a company called Cooperstown... or something like that.

There’s an easy way for me to tell. The big dealer from Dallas (forgetting his name) has the most gi-normous collection of wonderful Red Sox pennants, I think his pics may be somewhere back in this thread. If he won the pennant, it’s real. If he didn’t bid, it’s fake. Simple as that.

I've attached a pic of the back of the red sox pennant, where you can mostly see the spine stitching that appears to leave no way to insert a stick and the long tassels with the triangular cut out (notch) at the tip. And also a pic of the modern Seals pennant with the same characteristics.

Was the triangular tip cut out/notch something that was used on older pennants? Anyone have any examples?

Rick Haskins. First person I thought of when the picture was posted. If he doesn't chime in before, there's a big Tristar show he does every six months in my town. The next one is Feb 8-10. I'll probably see him there and can get his thoughts.

Not a baseball pennant expert by any means, but for me, the graphics look too precise for the era a 32" pennant would be indicative of.

I don’t care who bought it, it’s a newer piece. The stitching on the piping and layering of pieces screams new. Bocca is right.

Rick is probably looking at this and I would be surprised if he spent $400 on this.

Yeah... I was thinking it was likely the same company (or individual) that made the Seals Pennant as well. Many thanks to Marc for blowing up the spine and fish-tail tassels. I was just too lazy to hunt for the pics, although I know they are buried somewhere within this gi-normous thread.

Which, by the way, has now exceeded 2,000 posts! Rob is 'da Man

For what it’s worth, here’s a 1910s Athletics pennant, unquestionably vintage, with horizontal stitching at the top and bottom of the strip. (Also three sets of tassels, tucked behind.)

Here’s another, same era, like the other one everything is stitched (no silk screening). Odd size (9” by 35”) ... but with same stitching on spine.

Hey Gary...

I have at least 60 pennants that are not appearing on your spreadsheet. I don't have time to upload/post them all here. But if you can PM me your email address, I can shoot the images over to you. Once I am able get into my bins, there may be another 60. But that's for a later day...

Thanks,
Mark

Gary,
I took a look at your catalog. Nice work. My tech skills are non existent, but that must have taken a long time to put together. Like Mark, I have a number of pennants I could try to photo for you. I just don’t know the easiest way to get the photos to you. Very nice work putting that together.

Thanks Mark. I've send you and Jason a PM. Any photos or other info that you can share would be gratefully received.

Be careful what you ask for....

If Gary's email has a data storage limit, it has just been exceeded. Pics sent, and it felt like more than double the 60 that I guessed at earlier.

Gary, please just confirm they came through ok... Thanks

Yep, I've received them. Many thanks for sending them. Don't worry about breaking my email account, I have plenty of space :-)

I'll have another version of the catalog out this weekend including your updates.

I’m waiting until it’s “done” before I download it again.

We've just finished the bottom of the 5th Inning and the Dodgers have pulled ahead. The new league table is as follows:

182 Dodgers
157 Giants
69 Cubs
69 Tigers
50 Yankees
37 Reds
37 Indians
34 World Series
29 All-Star Game
26 Phillies

The new catalog is available here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1zDM...ew?usp=sharing

We're now at 999 entries. 47% have manufacturer identified.

I really need insight into the relative rarity of the pennants though. If you have insight about it, please let me know.

This is the rarity scale that I'm using at the moment (though I'm open to suggestions):
  • 10-Extremely Rare (Only 1 or 2 known to exist)
  • 9-Extremely Rare (1 available every 5 years or more)
  • 8-Very Rare (1 available every 3 years)
  • 7-Rare (1 available each year)
  • 6-Rare (2-5 available per year)
  • 5-Somewhat Rare (10 available per year)
  • 4-Somewhat Rare (1 available each month)
  • 3-Common (2 or more available each month)
  • 2-Common (5 or more available each month)
  • 1-Very Common (Readily available)

Thanks to a bunch of contributions in the last 24 hours, I have another version available here: https://drive.google.com/file/d/1MI0...ew?usp=sharing

The total number of pennants in the catalog is 994 (a few dupes were removed).

63% have the manufacturer identified.
35% of the pennants have scarcity identified.

Please let me know if I've missed anything or made any errors.

Looking pretty good. But noticed something in need of correction....

Cubs Oversized Teens Pennant # CHC8073TBC definitely needs to be "10" in scarcity (not "8").

Thanks

I hope this link works ... I have twelve 1969 Mets pennants. There may be more. All of these are made of cloth. Top six are Trench, five are ASCO and the last (with the weird orange crown covering "Eastern Division") is that unknown NY company.

I think I may have seen a couple of knock-off types on stiff felt. If there are others on cloth, let me know ...

https://photos.app.goo.gl/8PdfuzDH8f98ZTgw8

EDIT: I guess logically there must be at least one more, the last one without the crown ....
