As with my suggestion on the other thread, I'm going to suggest interesting but not necessarily great players. Of course Mickey Mantle was awesome, he doesn't need to be celebrated in another card set for anyone to get that. But we can highlight interesting and/or underappreciated players.
How about: Isao Harimoto - Japan's all-time hits leaders (and atom bomb survivor) The Alou Brothers (they can share a card) A card about players who actually saw combat in WWII (Spahn, etc.) Mark Fidrych (he can be pictured talking to a baseball) Last edited by nat; 01-08-2019 at 07:32 PM. My two cents-
Paige- technically debuted in the major leagues after the cut-off Carlton, Ryan, Maddux- crafty, power, and finesse Rickey Henderson- an all time great, and an oddball Pee Wee Reese- On and off the field a great person and player Richie Ashburn- one of my all time favorites Reggie Jackson- power player and clutch Winfield- all around great athlete and brought leadership to teams Jeter- again, played in the spotlight with class and skill Ichiro- still underrated, could hit anything at any time, speed, and fielding Ken Griffey, Jr.- great during his time even when injuries took him Cal Ripken, Jr.- ironman, tough, good glove, good bat, good brains Koufax and Drysdale- both great Ozzie Smith- brought flair back to the game, great fielder, decent hitter, fun Bob Feller- nice guy, would sign and talk to anyone, oh, and he could pitch too! Mike Schmidt- one of the greatest 3rd basemen ever. Mickey Hatcher- determination, tough, and funny. And one of the best baseball quotes of all time..."I would rather be the worst player in the major leagues, than not be in the major leagues at all." There are others...but my first thoughts. |

I was thinking the same thing, in addition to many others on the list. But hey, we all like who we like. I would have thought someone else would have mentioned Gwynn before Vince Coleman, Ron Cey, Marquis Grissom, etc...
