Thanks! I had seen a couple of those links, but the connection to the National Copper Plate Set is helpful. If I'm reading correctly, the Sporting News supplements were based on the Copper Plates, which means he has a total of two issues. And if that Christie's auction is any indication, I might be able to pick one up for $500-$1000 if it were to ever appear? I'm not likely to find the framed plate plus cut autograph for $116 (!!!) like in that 2006 HA auction.
This seems to clear it up: http://www.sportscollectorsdigest.co...ate_portraits/ Last edited by Shankweather; 10-22-2018 at 03:26 PM. |

I spent a good hour looking for completed auctions or current listings and nothing popped up. I did see there is a team image or postcard if you'd accept this one as an option.

I once owned one of the M101-1 Sporting News Supplements of Bill Lange (fair condition). I sold it on eBay for about $115 back in October 2016. The National Copper Plate will run you a little more, but it is far more scarce than the Sporting News Supplement. Regardless, neither issue shows up all that often, so grab one if you see one.
Oh, and I also once owned an 1898 Chicago Orphans Team Premium, which included a young, 21-year old Frank Chance and a middle-aged Clark Griffith. I believe Lange was pictured on that card as well. I'll see if I can find images of both of those some time tonight. Good luck in your search!

In addition to the M101-1 and National Copper Plate Lange is also depicted on a Cameo Pepsin pinback and is My favorite Lange item as at least it is small like a card and not paper thin.
That being said, good luck finding one as I have only ever seen one Lange come up for sale before... https://www.robertedwardauctions.com...in-collection/

Thanks for your help everyone. I don't rely on Beckett for pricing, but I thought they were reliable as a checklist at least. But their lists for the 1898-99 NCP and 1899-00 SN Supplements are incomplete.
Just to be sure, does anyone know of any issues for Fred Goldsmith? Played 1879-1884. |
