Hi Al,
I only checked the few singles that are listed on ebay and none of them have it. The box I have that has the 90's topps in it is on the bottom of a bunch of other boxes but I'm going to dig it out and check mine even though I know there's a very slim chance I would have one even if it is recurring. |

I had five more Dennis Lamp cards in the box I checked. None of them
had this mark but one did have a similar mark in a different spot. Dennis Lamp 2.jpg Dennis Lamp 2 Crop.jpg |

I believe that's not a mark that was on the plate, but rather a drag mark. The presses have various guides to direct the sheet to the right spot after it's printed, and there are some tinsel like things that are used to dissipate static electricity. Being near the center of the full press sheet, this is probably from the sheet rubbing on one of the strips intended to guide it onto the outfeed pile while the black ink was fresh. That should happen in a few other spots on the top row as well. Maybe a couple across each side, and near the other corners.

Like most sets this one is filled with these but here are two more I found
interesting. A quick check didn't reveal any others but they do look like something that could be recurring. Randy Valarde with red stripes in the Yankee logo 1990 Topps Randy Valarde.jpg Andy Benes with two blue bands 1990 Topps Andy Benes.jpg |

Those come as they are pulling them off of the press. That's a mark of one of the rollers on the press.
It isn't a variation as it wasn't created that way.

I just thought it was interesting I wasn't necessarily trying to pass it
off as a variation. I'm not knowledgeable about the printing process and I thought since it was the same width and color as the hand drawn mark on the uncut sheet it could have been an errant mark. Although it's a completely different time period and printing process these T206 Mitchell's have a similar type mark that is recurring. Mitchell.jpgMitchell With Black Mark.jpg |
