Yeah, it's zoomed in quite a bit. It's a 1960 Topps Willie McCovey, so you can get an idea of how zoomed in it is.

I was considering sending this off to SGC so any input is appreciated!

I think I'd be very worried about a card that had a smell. That is not normal for a card that looks like it's in otherwise good shape. If it had water damage and had a mildew odor, that would be different. You didn't say, but what kind of smell? Fresh paint/gloss type smell? Then that would be something to worry about.

I'll have to give it another sniff tonight. I noticed a smell almost immediately, and I don't know if it was in retrospect, after seeing the gloss, that it struck me as possibly varnish-ish... ? Or something like that. I was hoping someone could definitely say the gloss not extending to the edge is unusual, and from there worry more about the smell. ?

Is the card from the edge of the sheet? If it isn't , then the gloss not extending is odd. (not for all sets... )
If it is, then it may not be a problem. Gloss is just another color and can be out of register just like any other. If you think it might be reglossed, check the other edges for signs of the gloss extending onto the side of the card. That shouldn't happen. At the same time check for an edge that appears trimmed. The best way to get rid of the extra gloss that ran would be to trim it off after drying. |

It happens. I have seen this in cards from time to time it is not a common occurrence but isn’t rare either. It would detract from the grade in my opinion how much I am not sure. I do not think it is necessarily played with. Excuse of this because like I said I have seen it in cards from time to time.

I have seen a few like this like too.
I never paid it too much attention, but you can see the same gloss line on the McCovey in this listing - https://www.ebay.com/itm/1960-Topps-...kAAOSwapNbRPsd I don't know where the McCovey sheet position falls, but I would assume at the bottom of the sheet and the gloss pass runs short occasionally. Just a guess.
