These 61’s arrived in today’s mail. Is it just me or does this set not get a lot of love? I guess the ‘63 and ‘65 Topps issues would win a design contest over ‘61, but I still like them. This Aaron is cool because it shows you that old Milwaukee uniform with the black tomahawk - a lot of folks forget that it was not always red. And Yogi, while approaching the twilight of his career - still has a sweet smile and there is the classic left field backdrop of original Yankee Stadium.

More than happy with this mail day...and maybe now I’ll pickup some cheaper 61’s to go alone with these...

I love this set. My second favorite behind the '57 set. I like it much better than those other 2. The only 2 reasons I have yet to start working on it is because there are 7 Mantle cards and the high #s. Although I found a few high #s for a really good price. Wound up passing on them as I'm not doing the set though.

If you are doing the set mid-grade though, I've got to imagine it's still a steal in comparison to trying to do '63, '65, or '67. The Mantle #300 in mid-grade is a lot more affordable than the '65 base Mantle #350 (and has a lot better photo too...)

I may start working on this as well - as a Cubs fan, you could do worse in a set that has the RC's of Billy Williams and Ron Santo...

Grabbed a couple of beautiful Micks...

And I got a couple of superstar 10's at a decent price (and these Kellogg's will never curl up and crack, which is nice)...

Spelling "Yastrzemski" correctly without needing to look it up since the 1980s.

You mean how everything here is constantly all about Mickey Mantle and not a single collector ever admits they collect Mantles only because his cards continually carry great monetary value? Yup, I'm still there.

I know what you mean. There are a lot of Mantle fanatics here. But as a collector of Topps, Bowman and Fleer sets... and a Cardinals fan...his cards are just a necessary ...and expensive ... evil for me

Wish my bottom left and top right were in a little better condition like your's, but overall I am pretty happy with my copy as well.

Funny story about him in this HOF article from Mickey Vernon.

I missed out on a couple of really nice cards this past weekend...so, I'm back to my goal of the first 280 cards in the 1952 Topps set:
