Just a guess here. I owned years ago a 1968 Mantle on paper that had a similar crease to your Alley. I also owned a Rose on foil no crease (from the Halper collection). I have seen at least 4 1967 proof sheets and a handfull of assorted singles and have never seen a 1967 on paper - only foil. I presume the origins will remain a mystery if and until one shows up. Also curious why the 1968 seems so much harder than the 1967.

So the '68 is tougher? The Standard Catalog says the '68 is more common.

As for addressing the original question, Mark hit the nail on the head. I believe the original 2 pictures are the same. They both are silver foil. The pictures are shot with different lighting and at a different angle.

I have seen some of those creased 68's as well over the years. With proofs it's sometimes a matter of what part of the process survived or who purloined it.

The 68's are much more difficult than the 67's and IMO it's not close.

Is this "black/magenta ink" pic (pulled from google) an example of discs that would eventually be full color after more ink was applied?

These are progressive proofs with only a couple colors. I’m no printing expert, or even a novice for that matter, but I don’t think colors would be added to this, but was a proof for those particular colors alone.

They look kinda cool too and there not really cards, but discs. Are you going to start collecting these type of Giants items?!?
