Not a chance....and judging by the various answers I am seeing, it seems a though a lot of people really are clueless about the "true" cost of shipping something.

Collectible Insurance requires a signature over $400, so that's going to add a bit to the cost. Below that amount, the delivery confirmation the PO sticks on the package is good enough for them. I believe over $2,000 it is supposed to be Registered or Overnight, but that is not practical on a 20lb flat rate box. On a small order, using a flat rate Express envelope works fine.

If the card was maybe under $40 I'd consider an envelope. Other than that its a priority mail box. I put a card in a padded envelope once and it got cracked. Factor my $10 charge into your asking price.

On the under $400's, they are usually one or maybe two graded cards, sandwiched in cardboard and well taped, in a padded envelope. If it's 3-5 graded cards, they will usually still go first class in the small boxes available from u-line. Past that is flat rate boxes.
I used to use the small priority boxes until the rate kept going up and realized the small 400 count U-line boxes would go first class for 1/2 the price, and many, many times be there in the same time frame as the priority boxes. Last edited by sb1; 09-19-2017 at 04:53 PM. |

Sadly it's that way in business for most things. People think they know the cost of the item and if the price is higher than 1.5x or maybe 2x they think they are getting ripped off. But they don't understand all the costs that goes into running a business or selling costs. The internet has only made this mindset worse.

Imo, you guys are being gouged big time and E-Bay is getting rich off of you at a time when you are losing business because you use Global shipping. 99% of my purchases have come from the States, and although I use to pay a higher than average price of $15.00 for shipping from a big E-Bay seller, mentioned more than a few times on this site, I no longer choose to use them, (for more reasons than just shipping) as I can get cards shipped to me for 5x less that cost.

I guess if you haven't been to the post office often you may not have a clue what things cost. A stamp might be 40 something cents. A package isn't. Small priority mail box is 6 bucks 85 I think. Add another buck fifty (?) for signature. And then you need bubble wrap and the time it takes to package it and stand in line. Whatever.
As someone said, if you really care about the card you've bought don't you want it shipped safely? |

I mailed a Goudey Premium to a board member this morning. Generally poor condition. I mailed it as cheap as I could because it was only a $25-$30 item. First I stood in line at CVS at 8 am and bought a large enough padded envelope for $3.25. Then I went back to my office and packed it up. Then went to the post office and stood in line for 10 minutes. I mailed it first class since it wasn't going far. Cost $4.35 I think. That's almost $8 bucks not counting for my time. And that's as cheap as I could mail it.
Some of you guys crack me up. Last edited by Snapolit1; 09-19-2017 at 07:34 PM. |
