I've always wondered about the old-timers homes and, if still still standing, they carry a premium, or if no one even bats an eye as to who lived there previously.

It's a pretty sweet "J. Honus Wagner" signature, if you ask me. I do agree that the intent of the signer here -- that he was addressing this to someone other than himself -- makes it funky. But, what constitutes a "signature" is a rabbit hole the journey through which has many twists and turns. While most people prefer a signature that was designed by the subject to represent his or her name, why that should matter is a really difficult question to answer that raises a fundamental philosophical question - why do people collect the signatures of people in the first place? What about that medium creates interest?
You see this sometimes in Ty Cobb signatures as well. I think he wrote letters to his son Ty Junior. People pass those off as Ty Cobb signatures as well, with the same expected raised eyebrows.

I have had several envelopes of deadball era players where they wrote to their wives and wrote their own names with "mrs" in front and they absolutely are autographs. I hate the cut up cards, but that is a nice signature and I would rather have one of those than two of his later in life signatures with that crazy H he signed with.

The house is still there, in Carnegie, and if I recall correctly was sold/purchased in the last 5-10 years for a modest sum ($150,000ish)... |

I have frequently seen it said that Wagner had 'bowed' legs.
I guess being a Mrs. and playing short will do that to you. Thanks for noticing, Brian .

Maybe not technically a signature, but would be labeled as an autograph by PSA. If they determine it is authentic.
I have an entire index card written on by a 1948 NFL player that is slabbed authentic auto and I don't think his name is written on it once.
