Let me offer another theory. About this time (I remember because I paid my $2 and hit off him) Feller would come to minor league games and pitch before the game allowing anyone who would make a donation to charity to take a swing against him. He would then shower and go up into the stands and sign autographs. At least the game when I saw him, his wife was with him. I blooped on over the second baseman's, making me 1-1 lifetime against hall of fame pitchers. I got an auto during the game as well...
