AC: Great to drive to from the East Coast, terrible to fly to from DFW or anywhere else

Correct me if I am wrong....Derek Jeter will most likely be inducted into the HOF in 2020.
Cooperstown is already predicting 100,000+ will be there in 2020 for this event. The HOF date is usually set for the last weekend of July. Whoever set the National date for the weekend of July 29 thru August 2 is not too smart. TED Z . |

For most of the 1980's and 1990's, the National has been scheduled the week following the HOF weekend. In recent years (including this year),
the National has conflicted with the HOF weekend in Cooperstown. In my opinion, this is really dumb scheduling. As, I have set-up at the Cooperstown BB card Show since 1986. Obviously, I missed it this year. In any event, it's my problem. Does anyone else here feel that the National scheduling dudes should take into consideration the HOF event ? TED Z . |

they'd be foolish not to.

If the powers to be insist on having the National late July-early August they are going to conflict with either Cooperstown or Canton. I guess they figure it hurts the bottom line less conflicting with the BB HOF Induction.

To defend the National promoters and their scheduling issues, in reality they have about a 4-6 week period to run the show depending on how July 4th falls.
I know in Texas, we begin school on August 21st or so which is and was a shock to me who never began school in the NY area until after Labor Day. So using that, we have about a 6 week period in which the show can be run to deal with school issues. And then dealing with what various venues have available and does it fit the National's needs, does limit them quite a bit. So, there are going to be conflicts no matter what anyone does and that decision on where and when is something above our pay grade. Personally, there are three areas I think have been ideal for the National: Anaheim, Chicago and Baltimore. Another possibility is St. Louis All 3 have tons of hotel rooms near the show, All 3 have accessible transportation to and from and All 3 have enough things to do in the area to make the social events fun. If we just rotated between these three areas, I'd be a happy man. (of course, I'd be happier if we did not have hard concrete floors but that is another issue) Regards Rich

My opinion about Atlantic City:
Not as good as Chicago or Baltimore, better than Cleveland. Plus it's nice to be the "home team" once in a while. I'll take it. -Al |

I also talked to someone who said they talked to a National person regarding locations and was told that the Rock Showplace Convention Center in the suburbs of Detroit is 50k sq. ft. too small, and that St. Louis had too much crime in the area of their center, FWIW.

Amen Rich. Chalk me up as one of those Southerners who will be in Cleveland in 2018, Chicago in 2019 but not Atlantic City in 2020, inaccessibility of flights being the major, but not only, reason.

Just picked a random day next month to see what the flight options are from Dallas to Philadelphia on Expedia. 12 direct flights and 56 with a connection. Yeah I can see why it's next to impossible to get a flight within striking distance of Atlantic City. I usually say if I don't have at least 100 flight options a day a place is not accessible.
3 direct round trips Dallas to Cleveland that day. Last edited by Snapolit1; 08-04-2017 at 03:12 PM. |

I live in Northeast PA so I am glad it will be back here, however Philly is a much better choice or even Secaucus NJ would have been a good option. I guess the free space in AC pays for it. I was really happy last year.

True.
Soon someone can bring up the fact that it's a really really dangerous place too. That was a never ending theme in 2016. Unlike Chicago and Cleveland of course. |

All joking aside do you think a National will ever be held on the west coast?
