"Stealing" second base shortens the distance from first to third.

"Stealing" third base all but eliminates the sacrifice fly scoring a run.

"Stealing" home ends the game as no more runs can be scored.

Then it just shortens the distance between 1B and the dugout (depending on which team occupies each dugout).
