Large 1891 Cornell rowing photograph by C.H. Howes.

The photo was taken June 25th, 1891, in New London, CT, when Cornell brakes the world record for an eight-oared 3-mile race with a time of 14 minutes 27½ seconds. The photo has some condition issues, which I will need to address to best preserve, but a very rare original photograph of an historically dominant crew.

Picked up a ton of sports publications from the 1920s-60s (including about 30 Husker football programs mostly from the 30s and 40s) at a local auction tonight. Also got a very cool 1930 champions baseball trophy along with charms from the same championship. Got the guy's baseball bat too, a Spalding 200 Hand Turned model.

Great stuff Dan. Nice big group of programs. Did you have a lot of bidding competition at the auction?

Yeah, all the local 'heavy hitters' were there, but the good thing is they are all cheap. As far as I know none of them do ebay, they just buy to collect or sell locally.

Very cool. I was captain of my high school crew team. We never came close to setting any records though.
