Amazing how a bidding war and extreme scarcity can drive prices up. All it takes is 2 people who have to have something and then a battle to see who gives first. If the buyer tries to sell again and there are not 2 who have to have it, could sell for significantly less. Certainly have seen that before!
Apparently people still have plenty of money for cards!

This is the type of sale that you cant judge the state of the card market on because its a unique 'art' type of item and rare.
I have seen these types of sales look extreme in price then a few years later they look like a steal. Green Ty Cobbs and rookie lou gehrigs come to mind in the past few years. |

It was an amazing find for sure. Should we assume that all these cards are going right to PSA? In other words, the packs will not remain unopened.

It would be insane to open the packs, especially since a non-trivial percentage of the cards will be ruined by the gum. (To say nothing of the fact that they're rarer in unopened packs then they would be as individual cards.)

500k+. Wait what? There are few things that I would pay 500k for and I can say unequivocally that a box of black and white baseball cards isn't one of those things.

The winning bidder probably makes that in a week.

Regardless of the winners wealth 500k+ is nuts in my opinion. These are items that were printed less than 70 years ago. Seems crazy but what do I know.

Amen Bob! A box of cardboard is not on my list either! But a T206 Magie was... for a ton less than that.
