I have four big regrets as it relates to the ho by:

1. 1960 Topps Venezuelan Mantle: I had the opportunity to purchase one at an incredibly reasonable price several years back. I'd been searching for years for one for my collection without luck. Well, luck would have it my significant other and I started to get serious. I promised her I wouldn't buy any more cards until she had a ring (funds were tight given a career change and she was very understanding). Low and behold this card pops up on eBay. It took me years after to find another and ended up costing me five times as much. I now own three

2. Briggs Meats Mantle: A board member offered me an incredible deal. I didn't realize it and passed. He sold it for twice what he wanted and prices have shot up ever since.

3. Yamakatsu Mantle: I made a responsible decision and kept my bidding in check but man do I wish I didn't. I doubt I'll ever see the card again and it was a beauty.

4. 1952 Topps Mantle: I was trying to raise funds and sold one of my two last year. I'd asked a reach price and someone met it. I felt (and believe I was right) that it was the top of the market and a great time to sell. I liked that card and just haven't been as passionate about collecting since I let it go.

Haha, been together for eight years. Married for two. And just had our first kid in March. I do wish I had that card though and will get it one day!

Unfortunately, I grew up in the 80's, you know, when prices on everything were down to earth.

I have 2 pretty good stories.

1. In (I think) 1988 they'd have a show at a hotel a few miles from my house in Brooklyn Park, Minnesota. I'd go every month. There was someone there once who had 3 52' Mantles, all in rough shape, for $200 each. I remember telling my dad "This is the most popular card besides the Wagner, buy all three of these and there's no way you'll lose money on them". He knew nothing about cards and I remember Beckett's book value at the time was EX $3,300 and Mint $6,600. I showed the Beckett to him when we got home and he said "Maybe we should have bought those cards". (To know my dad and his luck, you have to know that my mom's cousin invented the TENS Device and asked my parents if they wanted to invest $10k when he incorporated, he said "absolutely not". I don't know what they would have cashed out for, but it would have been more than $10k!)

2. In 2014, there was a 1990 Topps Frank Thomas NNOF PSA 8 on Ebay for $2,500. I thought it was over priced and told the guy I'd give him $2k for it. He came down to $2200 and that was that, no deal. A PSA 3 just sold on Ebay for $3k.

On the sports card side, an eBay seller posted six of the Number on Front variant 1909 T51 Murad College Series last fall in ranging from Good to Excellent condition for Buy it Now. I needed three of them, and paid up to get the Michigan card for $150. I went to bed figuring two of the other "commons" at $50 and $100 would be there when I got up. They sold overnight. Haven't seen either listed since then.

And going way back on eBay, I was collecting F. Earl Christy college postcards when I was in college around 1999. Christy never did a Georgia Tech postcard, but a hand painted handkerchief signed by Christy with a Ga Tech girl was listed by an Atlanta museum that was clearing out some stock. I put in a $350 bid that was the max I could put on my credit card at the time, but got outbid. I haven't seen it relisted since, and I was the underbidder. I would probably pay $3000 for it now.
