People are often shocked to hear the nicknames given out in the old days: Dummy for the deaf, Rube for country folk, Nig, Chief for Indians, etc.

Of course, nothing beats NASCAR driver Dick Trickle. He having to be aware of it, I figure Dick either had a Budweiser sense of humor or was a tough guy waiting for someone to dare joke about it to his face.
