Guys really no harm was meant! I thought this being a mostly sport site that some sportsman things could be shared. My local paper had pictures of me and deer in the paper and not one person complained. I guess maybe where I live its more acceptable to hunt. I was just wanting to share a very good day with you guys.

You are correct David I really was just trying to share a great day for me and my family. We have always had family or friends that would give us venison and we love to eat it because its flavor is great and its very heart healthy having nearly zero fat. I had wanted to give back to friends and family who provided us over the years. I took up deer hunting on a whim and got a deer that is one of the biggest shot in my state. I just thought you guys might be interested in something other than the usual. Again in no way was I trying to upset anyone here just wanted to share.

This thread got just odd. I would agree is started a little off by title and pic(not expecting it) but man.. all this backlash... babe would be rolling in his grave. So many compassionate people here.. who would have thought?!?

Congrats on your hunt; glad you were able to have the experience and provide food for your family. You now understand/hands on what eating meat entails.
Those posting pictures of fish, dogs and pussy (cats), maybe not eating meat should be a New Years resolution.

OP: pm me, let's compare stories.

I switched to whole food, plant based lifestyle this year. Lost 45 lbs, but much more importantly, significant reduction in inflammation, arthritis, cholesterol, and triglyceride levels. I was on the fast track to meds, but no longer. Had my first meat in 6 months at Xmas eve dinner as a matter of receiving hospitality of the host. But back to it and feeling awesome. Consider it.

Not a hunter but raised by a long lineage of hunters on both sides of my family tree. No issues with it at all. To each their own.
I would agree that this is a strange place to post your latest "pick up."

I was thinking that if I wasn't willing to do the killing, then I shouldn't eat it.

Since I have never had the guts to shell a bean or pull up a carrot, I have no choice but to take up hunting.

I've seen Fudd try to pull up a carrot and it can be dangerous! Wasckly Wabbits!

That's why I became a vegan nearly three years ago. My only regret is that I waited until I was 46. It is the best choice for the animals, your health and the environment.

That is just crazy to me. But hey, there are crazy people everywhere!!

BTW, my 13 yrs old dog has acute kidney failure and is still on IV at the vet. They don't know if she is going to make it. I held her for about 15 minutes this morning, in the back of the vet where the sick dogs are kept. I brought her rotisserie chicken blended in white rice (all made this morning) but she still won't eat. I brought a blanket from home so she can have her "home" smell in her little cage up there. They have her on antibiotics too. I will probably pick her up late this evening and bring her home for the night. WE are hopeful but it's touch and go. It is so sad when our best friends are sick....

Did you look at the site? It talks about how ALL animals are basically tortured and murdered.

Very sorry to hear about you dog Leon. When I had to make the decision to put my Rottweiler Samson down because he was suffering from bone cancer I made him a Ribeye steak and slept on the floor with him his last night. It is crazy how much we love our pets. Tearing up just thinking about it. Good luck with you family member.

Harming animals offends me as does the propaganda filled webpage you linked to that is filled with a lot of complete BS. I do agree the large scale farms are horrible beyond what most could imagine. I feel very differently about the small scale family farms they are also bashing.

Also hope you know that it has been scientifically proven plants feel pain. So when you cut off that piece of loose leaf lettuce or pull that carrot you ARE causing stress to the plant. I have attended The university of Arizona, Mississippi State University, Missouri Western State University, and The University of Wisconsin on every imaginable aspect of plant growth. So I am not just throwing out unsubstantiated opinions like the website you linked to.

I have always said I don't want to hurt a plants feelings; while I am eating it.

I thought pulling the carrot relieved stress?

It's really interesting all the arguments regarding eating some meats, eating all meats, eating no meats, etc. I was in the middle of a 'fishetarian' diet when I first read 'The Paleo Diet'. That book turned me back to including red meat in my diet. Then I read 'I am a Strange Loop' by Douglas Hofstadter and decided I needed to re-think any meat-eating; however, it had no lasting impact. The helicopter pig hunt reminded me of Hofstadter's thoughts on animal 'souls' and I hate to say it, but I'm giving up bacon. 'Bottom Feeder' completely revamped my seafood eating and I think anyone who eats seafood should read it - you will learn some scary things, plus it's just plain fun to read. If you are going to put something into your body that is used to build more cells in your body, you really ought to have an idea of what it is (on all levels).

I've had extensive conversations with Mike, and also with Robert - I can't imagine getting angry with them about anything. The internet is loaded with garbage with a little bit of information mixed in. As a representative of what I stated in that last sentence, I believe this post qualifies as one of Hofstadter's strange loops.

We are all passionate about different things. I think a lot of time we convey and interpret things posted on forums wrongly. I am sure most that posted in this thread are very wonderful people and in person we could have some wonderful conversations despite our different beliefs. It would be a boring place if we all though the same way.

Leon, even with being 25% Indian(NA for you younger folks) I don't even believe in the craziness of plants having those type of feelings.
