I'd add Buchner Gold Coins and '63 Gad Fun Cards.

For me it's T201s. Who thought that it was a good idea to fold cards in half?
Second choice: 1938 Big Head Goudeys. |

Was about to post 38 Goudeys. Really dislike them, and the DiMaggio one is just odd odd odd. He just looks goofy as hell.

I hate T205s. They are just ugly. So are T204 Ramlys. I have zero interest in owning any of each. I actually bought 1 of each just to make sure they really are as ugly as the pictures show, and they are - perhaps uglier. So if anyone wants a T205 John McGraw or a T204 common (can't even remember who its is), let me know.
Indeed. That's one fugly card. Last edited by honus94566; 12-05-2016 at 08:41 PM. |

IMO Big Heads don't totally suck!!!...there's a (strange) uniqueness to them, plus a certain scarcity level
involved (in GREAT condition anyway) but...multiple strip cards are mucho fugglier IMO... JMO, of course. |

Strip cards. All of them. I don't even know their Burdick classification because I can't devote neuron connections to them.

e91c, I find both T205 and T204 when high grade to be among the most beautiful cards ever. goes to show one man gathers what another man spills.

Hands down the 1921 W9316 set. Alas, I have sold all my examples. I'm certainly not losing sleep over not owning one any more...

The 515-1 Strips. It's a tight race for the ugliest Ruth out there but this one just narrows out the W512.
Yes the 1943 MP & Co. R302-1 are completely hideous, but admitting I won't buy one they have a little Menko kitsch to them. The general disdain for the 38' Big Heads I don't get. The cartoon versions are one of my favorites (and hard as hell to find in decent condition) and I like the regular version too. I think they are a great representation of the transition of cards from something for adults in cigarettes to the new marketing to kids. If I was a 8 year old kid in 1938 I would have thought these were amazing. I consider these one of the first sets designed fully for children vs. adult consumers. Something we need more of today.

Strip cards are absolutely some of the ugliest cards ever made, but man can they make a budget HoF-collector happy.
![]() P.S. Not sure they taught proper scissor-cutting technique in school back then. Some of the strip cards look like Edward Scissorhands cut them after doing a modern day Edward Fortyhands.

I'll have to go with drawn (not real photo) strip cards as the ugliest, but they are historically important, so I'm still including them in my "type" collection.
I also dislike sets with players who all look the same or very similar (E91C, T201, Buchner's, etc), so I won't ever be completing any of them - just including 1 as a "type" in my collection. As for the '38 Goudey Heads Up cards, I really like them. They might look a bit odd, but I find them to be original and fun. Some day I'd like a full set of the high #'s. I think the Schutter Johnsons deserve mention in the thread.
If talking all eras, I'd include quite a few (but cetainly not all) late 1980's and early 90's issues too.

They're prettier than you think. Here's my complete set. When they are organized in the original strips, the colors really pop. And check out the high percentage of HOFers!
