I know this is an old thread, but thought it wouldn't hurt to see if there are some other examples to add to the five already posted. All seem to have a Piedmont 150 reverse. Check your McGraw no caps and see if you have one and let us know. Here are my two again.

Hi Mike,
I have four McGraw (no cap) PD 150's and none of them have that mark but I do have two Cicotte 150's that have a similar mark. img745.jpg The Cicotte mark continues onto a Seymour PD 150. Seymour%20_5_ - Copy.jpg Seymour [5] - Copy - Copy.jpg Having this mark on Cicotte/Seymour makes sense considering they are also along side each other on one of the PD 150 plate scratch sheets. Good stuff Pat, not sure what it means, but those red streaks look like the one's on McGraw. And thanks for checking your McGraws.
I wonder what caused the red streaks? Anyone have guess? |

Great Pat, thanks. Just what I was wanting, a running library of the McGraw cards. Your posts have been very helpful. Hopefully others will share scans of other McGraw cards with this red “splotch”. Kind of interesting that all are lower grade so far.

Interesting that McGraw has two types of streak as well, one thick and one that is thinner. Seems like this ought to be an all or nothing error, though I suppose the red ink from this splash might have been thicker in part of the splash and therefore would have worn out at a differential rate over consecutive printings (i.e., the mark gradually shrank as the thinner parts of the splash were used up faster than the thicker parts of the splash). OR, that might all have just been a bunch of crap!

I know it’s an old thread, but some may not have seen it before. Check your McGraw no cap and see if we can add to the total of 6. It’s been 11 years since Martin(how are you Martin) made us aware of this, I’ll bet there are a few more of these residing in net54 collections.

I haven't seen any new examples recently but I do have these two scans in my McGraw print flaw folder that haven't been posted in this thread. PD 150-1.jpg PD 150-3.jpg |
