I do it as well. I use black archival paper and measure and cut with an exacto knife. Here is one I did of my Red Heart Stan Musial.

I've always put my cards into a penny sleeve and into a screw down. I heard too many horror stories about people taking apart the screw down and part of the card going each way and tearing either the front or back apart.
So, I use penny sleeves and have never had a problem. Even in the smaller 1-screw screw downs, I do the same method. Hope this helps. |

Putting them in sleeves is also a great idea if there is any free space around the card. I had 2 of my most valuable cards in those non recessed cubes for over 25 yrs, but I ensured I didn't screw them down tight back then and I also laid them on their sides rather than flat to help keep the weight off of them. They have now been removed (since joining Net54) and reside in top loaders with sleeves.
